Grzane Wino (Mulled Wine)

December 1, 2017 by Lois Britton 11 Comments

Grzane Wino (Mulled Wine) is a great way to warm up on a cold winter day. You can prepare it withĀ  any inexpensive red wine. You’re going to add sugar and spices, so the wine’s flavor will blend with the other flavors, and the finer points of an expensive wine would be lost.
You’ll find Grzane Wino for sale at outdoor Christmas markets in Poland. It’s a good way to keep your hands warm as you visit the vendors’ stalls. It’s commonly available in bars and restaurants too during the colder months too.Ā  Mulled wine is popular all over Europe.
During one particularily cold week, when we were travleing with one of our daughters, I had hot mulled wine in London, Berlin, and Poznań but none better than this recipe from the 612th Squadron Cookbook.

Grzane Wino (Mulled Wine) from Poland

I first had this at the home of Ed’s squadron commander. The squadron had deployed for a month, as they often did, and the commander’s wife had the task of keeping the rest of us entertained and happy.

Sue did just that. A bunch of us spent the day at her dining table, learning to make Bread (Salt) Dough Christmas Ornaments and sipping Mulled Wine — instant sisterhood.

I love to put on a pot of Grzane Wino before winter guests arrive. The aroma and warmth make it such an inviting way to welcome them into your home, and it couldn’t be easier!

Na zdrowie,

Lois

Wondered how you were dealing with the extra cold weather in Europe, Lois! This sounds like a perfect antidote…

I saw on the news the terrible weather in Europe and thought of you. Glad you are doing well and coping with this lovely hot drink!

Yes! Last year I soaked the fruit less than a week and it was still spectacular. I divided the cakes into with or without rum. Both got raves! You should be able to find gorgeous glaceed fruit where you are.

There are many pre-mix seasonings for mulled wine. I’m glad you posted your version, for I knew the ingredients were in my spice cabinet. I’ve been thinking of experimenting with making it myself. Thank you.

Thanks for reposting this, Lois. I love mulled wine, although I’ve never thought to use port wine. Why not? I just wish we get some cool enough weather here in Tucson so that mulled wine would be appealing.
