This is my new travel bike. The crossbar hinges, allowing the bike to fold in half. The handlebars and seat are made for quick and easy adjustment. (I think it will be perfect to toss in the trunk of a car when we’re back in Tucson. I’ll be able to ride the paths along the Rillito or Santa Cruz without having to ride through town to get there.) In Poland, I’ve been riding it from our apartment around the nearby lake and back.
There’s a tram stop at the edge of our apartment complex. My ride starts and ends along the tram tracks. Before the next tram stop, I cross the tracks and ride along a park. The only time I’m on a busy street is in a crosswalk by the lake – 6 miles and no auto traffic! 🙂
Lake Malta is a manmade lake and home to all kinds of sports. I come across several bikers, joggers, walkers, and rollerbladers on my morning rides.
You can see Galeria Malta (shopping mall) in the background here. There’s also a great view of this fountain from TGI Fridays.
If it’s not frozen over, there’s always someone rowing something on the lake.
On the right, you can see the year round ski slope. On the left, you can see part of the grandstands for the boating competitions.
The Cybina River flows into this end of the lake, and the scoreboard is visiable in the distance. I took my ipod shuffle with me for the first time today, and found that I took several minutes off my time, even with stopping to take photos.
PS – I’ve noticed a lot of searches regarding this lake and bike rentals. The City of Poznan has a new bike rental program with locations all over town. You can find more information about it here. I believe there is also a bike rental at Galeria Malta (the shopping mall), near the entrance by the pedestrian bridge from the lake.

Hey cool bike! I did some travelling in Europe last summer with a Montague folding bike. A little different from yours, but really great for getting around on – and I use it all the time now that I'm back in the states too.

Our wedding reception was at the restaurant by the Malta lake. It is not the same restaurant anymore – it has been 15+ years. Memories, memories!

Hi, I'm in Poznan from 4-10th September 2012 for the World Canoe Polo Championships at Lake Malta somewhere. Was wondering about hiring a couple of push bikes to get from our hotel to the lake and back each day? We are staying at either the Sheraton or Willa Arkadia Hotel (not sure which yet?). What are the roads and traffic like in Poznan? Lake Malta looks lovely but what about the commute

bbb – malta doesn't advertise a weekly rental, but they might be willing to if you ask. There are other rentals in town; I think the city even has a rental program and they do mention longer term rentals. The traffic on the streets is very heavy, but people do brave the streets on bikes. The tram system is also excellent and very affordable. Good luck in September.

They haven't put the bike rental at the lake this summer (2013). There may be rental at Galeria Malta (shopping mall)across the street.
