The Hunger Games

April 1, 2012 by Lois Britton 3 Comments

This series was recommended to me by friend who is living in Saudi Arabia. Not having all of the freedoms and options I have in Poland, she always has an extensive reading list going. Our mutual friend in Singapore has also read the books, so I picture a three-way Skype call for our international book club very soon.

The Poznan International Ladies Book Club is also reading the trilogy for our April meeting. The Polish title translates to Death Olympics.

I just saw the movie and was pleased with how faithful they were to the original story. With that being said, a film can’t come close to the book; there’s just no way to include all of the meaningful details.

I’m wondering if you’ve read the books or seen the film. Did you know there is a Hunger Games nail polish line with 12 colors, one for each district?

Here’s something to get our discussion started (but feel free to discuss other aspects), do the roles of the stylist and mentor in raising support, those gifts delivered by silver parachutes, remind you of something we experience today?

I'm not sure if i have any desire to read this book.. but I purchased it and it's on my nook in a s queue. It seems to be a cultural phenomenon, and since I have not desire to be left out of it, I have to read it 😉

Madkasia – I know what you mean. This was so different than what I usually read. When I downloaded it from Amazon, I skipped the package price for the trilogy, thinking that I might not like it as much as my friend had. But in the end, I HAD to read them all!
