At some point when I looked at the monthly cell phone bill, I realized that every month, there is a square of aluminum glued to the back of the envelope. Very curious, and surprising that it took me so long to notice that this happens every month. What’s the deal with metal attached to mail in Poland?
Last time we were in the T-Mobile store at the mall, we asked Symon, our rep, about it. Symon had the perfect explanation. According to Polish law, only the Post Office can deliver letters. By adding the metal and extra weight to our monthly bill, T-Mobile can now call it a package, and they are able to hire a delivery company to deliver these so called packages for less money than the post office would charge to deliver the lighter weight letters. (Unlike the U.S., other delivery companies are allowed to put items in mailboxes.)
Mystery solved.

I was going to write a post about the same thing. It's all about the monopoly 🙂 We collect the metal for recycling at Lizzie's preschool.

The sad thing is, it took me months to realize that it always comes that way. 🙂
