Watching TV from home while living abroad

March 29, 2011 by Lois Britton 3 Comments

Connected to cable DVR and internet in US

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying that one of the highlights of being overseas is being able to watch stateside television. We enjoy getting out and experiencing our host country, but every now and then, something familiar is such a treat.

Our landlords have provided us with two Polish TV cable systems.  We get original Polish productions, some US and British shows dubbed into Polish, and BBC and CNN news in English, but to watch a favorite show from home, we connect to our Slingbox.

The Slingbox is connected to our cable DVR and internet stateside.  From any computer, we can log into our slingbox account and control our DVR and watch whatever it’s playing.  To make it even better, the computer is connected to a large, flat-screen TV.

Top Chef All-Stars; I’m rooting for Blais

I agree — Go, Richard! (And we're only 21 minutes away from the start of the finale!)

After a fight with time warner I told them to cancel my service (I'll show them!) two weeks before this season of Top Chef ended. Fortunately, Laura got Skype so I Skype her and she puts the computer in front of her tv. While it would have been nice for Antonia to make the finals I was happy to see Richard win.

Good to know there is something like slingbox. I'll have to get my daughter to install one in her Atlanta home, so I won't forget "American" in Poznan … especially with Polish TV dubbing everything 🙁
