I wanted to make something special for my mom’s birthday and took inspiration from a dessert my daughter had while vacationing in Orlando — a fancy chocolate malt cake, everything is extravagant when you’re at Disney! I made a chocolate cake and used this chocolate-malt buttercream frosting recipe – topping it off with malted milk balls. Voila! A Chocolate Malted Milk Ball Cake!
I am a huge fan of chocolate and malt. In my humble opinion, the flavors are made for each other. It’s a combination that was meant to be.
I’m often making Italian or Swiss Meringue Buttercream, so this frosting seemed very quick and easy in comparison. The texture was nice. It spread easily and was still firm enough to pipe.
PS – I’m revisiting this post after more than 7 years and am thinking that my very first blog post certainly had room for improvement! You’ll no longer see time and date stamps on my photos, or anyone’s for that matter. It seems to have gone out of fashion. I’d like to think that now, I would have leveled the cake or at least positioned it to look more level. I still think it’s a beautiful cake plate; I have our daughters to thank for that. While I can critic the photography, and maybe the write-up, I can’t fault the flavor. The Malted Milk Ball Cake was delicious, and that’s what it’s really all about.
Smacznego!
