Laundry Day in Poland

Our little washer – squeezed into the bathroom
Looking for a self laundry in Poznan? See the comments below!

Before I left the States, I made 3 attempts to replace our washer and dryer.  We finally found a set that would fit the small laundry closet in our kitchen.  The appliances are now bigger and technologically sophosticated. We ended up with a very basic, bottom of the line set because it would fit in our space.  Even so, the comparison to what I’m using now is marked.  Small and simple as our Polish washing machine may be, friends are envious because it’s much newer and nicer than the one in their Polish apartment.

Now for the huge difference in equipment – our dryer.  This will come to no surprise to anyone living in Europe, but by US standards, this is huge, and it’s one of the reasons, we don’t let laundry pile up.  We can’t do 5 loads in one day because our clothes drying rack will only hold one load and it may take two days for things to dry.

This gets moved to whatever bit of floorspace we’re not using at the moment.

I’ll bet large families have more than one drying rack.

When not in use, it folds up – out of the way.

It just occurred to me that we could turn this to stand vertically and not see it at all.  Sometimes, I need a picture.

The internet makes the world a much smaller place.  I learned yesterday that a friend and former colleague died on Sunday – a generous soul that touched many lives; Bob will be missed.

I’m not in Poland but I have done the struggle of laundry without a dryer. I have also used hangers and clothes pins. A shower rod, doorway with trim that the hangers could hang from. Even a narrow board balanced between two high places. Sometimes you have to be creative.
