Filharmonia Poznanska and Dinner at Room 55

March 19, 2011 by Lois Britton 1 Comment

Our Friday night began with dinner at Room 55 in the Stary Rynek (Old Square).  They have wonderful salads.  Mine included smoked salmon, shrimp, apples, kiwi, and red peppercorns.

Ed and Woody had the salad topped with Polish ham and grilled pork.  I had this one last week, and it is fantastic.  The pork is spicy and grilled to perfection – still very moist.  All of the salad are in the $8 price range.

After dinner, we were off to the Filharmonia Poznanska (local symphony).  They performed 3 pieces (including Mahler’s rendition of Bach) in this beautiful concert hall.

Fantastic orchestra – their conductor was different that most I’ve come across.  Rather than wearing tails as all of the men in the orchestra were, he wore black Chinese pajamas, and spoke at great length before the first piece – 20 freakin’ minutes; I’m sure it was very informative if one could understand Polish.   Even the musicians behind him were getting restless.

The house was nearly sold-out.  Seats in the balcony were all that remained when we bought ours at the beginning of the week.  The cost – about $6.  I can only imagine that they must have generous government funding.
