Cake decorating supplies overseas

March 30, 2011 by Lois Britton 2 Comments

I’m helping out with an Easter brunch, and one of my assignments is to bring decorated sugar cookies.  Easy enough, I love to decorate cookies, but I didn’t bring any decorating supplies with me.  Fortunately, I have a lot of time to find them.

I started with the closest shopping mall.  I was able to find Easter cookie cutters and a Wilton decorating kit at TK Maxx.  No, it’s not a typo, but from their website, I can say with confidence that it’s the same company we know as TJ Maxx.  Now the only thing I need is something to color the frosting.

After searching the grocery stores and friends’ kitchens for food coloring, I resorted to the internet.  I was able to find my favorite Wilton gel colors on a German website at nine euros apiece ($12.60).  I tried the Wilton website; they don’t ship internationally.  They did, however, list their international distributors.  There are two in Poland, and one happens to be in PoznaÅ„:

PAN SWEET DECORATION CENTER

UL.KOLEJOWA 57 60-715 POZNAN, POLAND

CONTACT: DARIUSZ ANDRZEJAK
TEL: +48 61 661 3636
FAX: +48 61 661 4270
EMAIL: biuro@pan-centrum.com

My husband is a map wizard and helped me plan how to get there by tram.  For all you cake bakers in POZ, I took Line 5 to Park Wilsona stop.  It dropped me off on Glogowska.  I crossed and walked down Kanalowa for two blocks (generally headed SE).  When Kanalowa deadends at Kolejowa, I turned left, walked about a block and found the store on my left.

The gate is open during business hours – the entrance is in the back of the building

This is a very industrial neighborhood; they appear to be a wholesale store for bakers but are willing to sell to the public.  They carry many Wilton and other cake and candy supplies.  The price I paid was slightly higher than what was marked on the shelves; I’m assuming that was for a retail transaction.  Even so, the colors were 11.07 zl or less than $4 apiece.   Wandering the aisles was so much fun; I know I’ll be back.

Check back later to see my finished product.  😀

Their website has changed since I wrote this post, Emma. I suggest using their contact form to ask about your region. Good luck with your search! 🙂
