How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies in Europe

April 9, 2011 by Lois Britton 5 Comments

What’s an American baker to do when there are no chocolate chips around?  Chop up 4 Ritter Sport (unfilled) chocolate bars (I used half milk and half dark choc) and proceed as usual.

No chocolate chips in Europe? Sounds like you’ve just discovered an unfilled market niche! These cookies look fantastic.

Vicki and Heli – I’m amazed that chocolate chip cookies, one of the few truly American classics, haven’t caught on in the rest of the world. I could probably find them in Berlin at KaDeWe (the German equivalent of Harrod’s) in their international foods section. I’ll be in FL next month for my daughter’s graduation; they’re on my list of things to bring back.
