Wishing you health and happiness in 2013! |
We just returned to Poland after two weeks at home in Tucson. Looking back at the blog related photos I took, it’s funny how one thing leads to another. We had a big bag of limes from Costco in the kitchen. I think they were originally intended for the big bag of Costco shrimp. The limes and the herb garden Lisa and I planted in September led to several days of mojitos and a good pruning of our mint plant.
Before Rachel left for CA, she mentioned having rosemary gimlets. Vodka gimlets were my drink of choice back in the 1980s. I’m not sure why I got away from them, but with a bit of simple syrup left over, a bowl full of limes, and rosemary among our herbs, it was bound to happen.
I used to drink gimlets with Rose’s lime juice (which is really a lime syrup), but this batch was totally from scratch. I muddled/bruised a sprig of rosemary in the simple syrup (water and sugar, a 1:1 ratio, heated just until the sugar dissolves) and let it steep for several hours.
Ingredients
1/2 cup vodka
1/2 cup rosemary simple syrup
juice of 3 limes
ice
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, shake
- Strain into martini glasses
- Garnish with a sprig of rosemary
Yields: 2 cocktails
I loved having time with our daughters over Christmas. It was also a pleasant surprise that with all of our dogs, four males, we had no dog fights.

Mine were actually gin, triple sec, lime juice, and rosemary simple syrup. I'm sure there are yummy too though!

Jenn – the little guy in the sweater is Dax. He loves having people make a fuss over him; I think that's why he likes to dress up.
