The Mohawk or a modified version seems to be very popular with young men in Poland. Imagine my surprise when I came across this in James Michner’s novel, Poland, this passage was set circa 1650:
Each man had directed his barber to dress his hair in the fashion then popular with the Polish magnates: from cheekbone to almost the top of the head, everything was clean-shaven–temples, sides of the head, most of the crown–except that straight through the middle, from forehead over the top and down to the nape in back. a stretch of thick hair about an inch and a half wide was left.
I just wonder if the young men today realize that they’re being traditional rather than radical, that they’re emulating Polish nobility?
An accountant by trade and a food blogger since 2009, Lois Britton fell in love with Polish cuisine during the years she lived in Poznań, Poland. As the creator of PolishHousewife.com, she loves connecting readers with traditional Polish recipes. I am 99% sure that these men have no clue that they are being "traditional".

What a great story! Nicely researched, Lois!

Kasia – I think you're correct!
Melinda – Thanks, but I can't really take credit for research. I'm reading the book and I just got to this part. I had to stop and read it aloud to Ed. I tried to read Iberia when we lived in Spain, but I could never get past the first few chapters. Poland seems to be a much easier read.
